Red and White 19th Century Antique Quilt
Stunning! (Unidentified pattern, possibly a Reel) Hand pieced and beautifully hand quilted noteworthy quilt from the mid to third quarter of the 19th century. It is rare to find this red leaf print in such amazing condition with the dark centers still intact on the figures of the leaves! The hand quilting is exceptional with different things happening at every turn. Each block, pieced in the round, is carefully quilted to accentuate the shape of the white sections of the block, enhancing the overall design with curved and straight lines making the white of the blocks really stand out. The sashing is quilted in a double rod and there is a beautiful feathered vine trailing the border. This is an exquisite piece of handwork.
Condition: Mint condition save for some storage stains that do little to detract from the effect of the quilt. It has never been wetted and is bright white otherwise. Due to the amazing condition, and to retain the value, best not to wash.
Weight: Medium weight
Measures 81 x 82 inches
