A wonderful collector's piece, a study in early to mid 19th century fabrics. This is a large, hand pieced and hand quilted, summer weight quilt in an Evening Star block. Circa 1850 with some earlier things worked in, it has a hand stitched, knife edge binding. It's quilted on the diagonal within the blocks, with chevron quilted border panels.
Note the tiny section of early blue and white toile used to complete the upper edge of the backing.
Condition: Fragile. For collection and display. There are 3 stars with significant fabric loss and about 8 others with some splits. The trailing rose setting blocks (green and tan) and border shown thinning and tears. Some mending has been done as well to the trailing rose.
Thin, light weight
Measures 92 x 101 inches
Please note that these are vintage and antique textiles, please read the descriptions carefully. I work hard to accurately describe and photograph any and all flaws.
