Antique Applique Quilt c1870

A wonderful folky applique quilt from the 1800s. The blocks are hand applique and the hand quilting is done in a single rod and also a chevron variation. The fabrics are indicative of the 1860’s or so, yet the binding is applied by sewing machine. Each block shows a different design in the applique which is rather primitive giving the quilt a young, playful feel.

Freshly hand washed and air dried.

Condition: Fair. Some yellow toning remains after wet treatment. Some wear to the edges and fabrics. A few original hand mends.
