Antique Blue & White QAYG Schoolhouse Quilt c1900

This schoolhouse quilts was constructed using a “quilt-as-you-go-” method where the blocks are pieced, batting is added, backing is added and each block quilted before they are all joined together at the end (seams overlapping on the back) to form the whole quilt. This is a unique design as the blocks were not set into the sashing, rather the sashing was pieced as part of the original block. It is hand pieced, densely hand quilted and the blocks are all joined by hand stitching. The blocks measure approx 12 x 16.5 each. 

Condition: Excellent. Some general age related spotting to the back, mostly, with slight yellowing and fade to the front and some hand mends (patches) that seem early. 

Weight: Medium weight, amazing texture/crinkle
