Antique Chintz Quilt c1830s

A remarkable, museum quality patchwork quilt from the early 1800s, circa 1830. This quilt is hand pieced using a stunning amount of chintz and other early prints. The half triangle squares contain a mix of chintz pillar prints and varied dress prints. Set around the blocks are full squares of pheasant in a palm tree chintz. Both the pillar chintz and the pheasant chintz have their original glaze. The hand quilting is done in a rudimentary outline throughout. The edges are finished in a hand stitched knife edge. The backing is natural white, likely a cotton linen blend. On the back edge the initials OLN are inked into the backing.

Condition: Mint condition, one tiny mend (hand stitched tear about one inch). One brown print has a little loss (crocking).
