Antique Jacob’s Ladder Quilt c1900

Soft, with a lovely blue & white backing, this hand pieced hand quilted Jacob’s Ladder quilt has a notable feature. When constructed, the quilter used two different types of red fabric to piece the pattern. One of them, in lesser quantity, was a colorfast Turkey Red which has withstood the tests of time. The other red used was a synthetic (or fugitive) red which has lost its color and remains tan. The effect is striking, and tells a story of late 19th century dyes for sure.

Condition: Good. A few water stains (untreated) and the fugitive red. Fading from sunlight exposure to the backing and binding edge.
