Antique Ocean Waves Quilt with Provenance, ca 1890 

A soft and beautiful hand pieced quilt with hand quilting in both brown and white cotton threads. The Ocean Wave is a beloved pattern and sought after by quilt lovers everywhere. This quilt comes with provenance and some papers sharing a little info about the quilter,  as well as a changing of hands when the quilt was later gifted. The colors are earthy and wonderful, lots of period browns and neutral shirtings. It is full of many wonderful, lovely 19th century fabrics.  Perhaps the most lovely trait, an incredibly sweet flora print  border with a red gingham binding for a chef's kiss. The quilt is remarkably well kept, some minor, age related yellowing and freckles. A few spots that are likely dye transfer from the brown patches. There is only mild thinning to one of the medium brown fabrics as shown and a small, 1 inch patch on the white backing. Note also, a tiny hand stitched mends on the binding. A gorgeous addition to any collection, a sought after pattern for sure.

Unwashed, freshly aired.
