Woven Antique Overshot Coverlet, 1859

A stunning, woven coverlet in white with red wool. The date, 1859, is woven into opposite corners which is a common design element in these early coverlets. The design on this piece is outstanding and it displays really beautifully. The side with majority white (pattern in red) is the front, while the opposite (majority red) is the back. The white ground, front side is in great condition, on the back there are some holes in the red wool on the surface. On the front some light yellow in a few places and one light gray mark. There are a few hand mends along the edges. It is in really wonderful condition for its age.
