Antique Crosses Quilt ca 1900

A less common pattern and a beautiful composition on this hand stitched antique quilt ca 1890/1900. This is a gorgeous quilt which displays beautifully but not for lack of wear and mends. There is fabric loss in several of the blocks and a sizable patch ( about 3 inches in diameter) which shows on the front and the back and was likely done in the 1970s. There are various other small, make-do mends upon close inspection on the surface only.

The backing looks to be a feed sack backing with a beautiful pale blue, oversized check in weave of the cloth (I have never seen it before). There are several marks on the backing. This has been washed, although not by me and I would hesitate to wet it again so as to preserve the remaining fabrics in the Crosses. There a few small spots of bleached out marks and some small chews on the binding. 

Amazing texture and weight. It is densely hand quilted which gives it an amazing look and feel.
