Antique Chips and Whetstone Album Quilt with 36 Name Stamps c1850

A very large, early album quilt from New York in a compass block pattern known as Chips and Whetstone. There are 36 hand pieced blocks measuring 14.5 x 14.5 each, set by hand into the green sashing. Each block contains a hand stamped name, in ink, with decorative plate engraved borders. There are 36 names in total, all legible. The binding is a foldover from the back and hand stitched. The backing is a solid blue. It is quilted in a variety of colored cotton threads which correspond with the fabrics on the front.

Fantastic research piece for those interested in genealogy. 

Condition: Good. Overall the quilt is in very good condition except for 3 small tears as shown. There are also two spots where the green has faded, about the size of a silver dollar.
