A beautiful, historically significant, antique quilt in a Leaf and Reel Block pattern (Some might say oak leaf, others may say Hickory Leaf). This large quilt contains over sixty names, 53 of which are still legible, in hand written ink, stamped ink, and embroidery. The dates and location are also inscribed on the quilt and my research indicates some Quaker affiliation through some of the families listed. Dates from 1842 to 1845, as inscribed.
It is in great condition for its age. There is some rub-away along the fold lines and one split towards upper center (only significant tear), surface only, and various other small surface tears mostly where folded and on the brown floral sashing. Some rub away in the designs of turkey red. There are some mild water stains visible on backing. Some of the stamps have faded as noted above (approx 10 or so).
This a fabulous addition to a collection and offers an expansive amount of research opportunity.
