Antique Rose Applique Quilt

A stunning hand stitched quilt from the second half of 19th century with beautiful, expert hand quilting throughout. The green stems and leaves have lost most of their yellow leaving a gorgeous muted blue. In some places even the blue has fled and in those areas there appear tan stems and leaves. The flower heads and buds are in decent condition with one block at the foot showing some significant thinning of the turkey red. The quilting really makes this quilt sing. The binding is a bright green, stitched piping-style in between the front and back layer which always makes for a thin, clean finished edging. There are some scattered marks and patina due to age and some small tears etc. Overall a wonderful, gorgeous and very large antique quilt.
