Capital T Antique Quilt, ca 1875

Capital T Antique Quilt, ca 1875. Hand pieced and hand quilted, this antique, patchwork quilt boasts the Capital T block, which many associate with “T for Temperance”, referring to the Temperance Movement of the late 1800s when many women used their needles and talent to aid the movement, or simply as their voice of advocacy. Whether this quilt was created for such a purpose we'll never know for sure, but we do know that it was well loved. With lovely, rounded corners, the binding has held up rather well with only minor wear. The main body blocks have experienced some fabric thinning to the double pink material and fading to the chrome yellow star print used for the Ts. The back has some light water marks that didn't soak out all the way. It is double quilted so it's a beautifully sturdy quilt. 

Freshly hand washed and air dried.
