“Drawn by Bertha and worked by Mamie Age 10 Years December - 25 - 1917”
This completed redwork quilt top is inscribed with the young quiltmaker's names and the date in the lower block. The inscription is surrounded with a vast array of charming hand drawn and hand embroidered vignettes, ranging from nursery rhymes scenes to months of the year, and flora / fauna. There are several portraits worked in as well (perhaps the girls themselves? One could dream..)
Condition: Fair. A few small seam separations. Some thinning to the white ground in places. Red paint splotches on the left side, as yet untouched or treated. Some tiny pinprick holes on one area of the edge border.
Size: 62 x 71 inches
*Please note that these are vintage and antique textiles, please read the descriptions carefully. I work hard to accurately describe and photograph any and all flaws. *All items are sold as is and all sales are final*
