Hand Pieced Antique Quilt, ca 1890 

Please note: This antique quilt has a peculiar condition referred to as “bearding” The soft, natural, carded wool that was used as batting on inside has now pushed through many of the fabric patches to show on the outside. Someone laundred it and sadly, put it in a heated electric dryer.  

I have painstakingly removed as much wool as I could possibly get off of the front and back, at least partially restoring the quilt to its pre-felted state. This quilt is choc full of incredible 19th century fabric bits and the smallest patches are those tiny 4 patches with inch wide squares. It's just amazing and I felt it deserved the TLC it took to get the majority of the wool off. 

This quilt is for clients who don't mind a little natural wool in and on their quilts. Once you hold it and feel the softness and bounce, you'll agree - it's too special not to enjoy!
