Princess Feather Quilt c1830

A fabulous, early Princess Feather Quilt in a New England style with rounded bottom corners to accommodate a bed with posts. This quilt, sourced in Connecticut, has lovely and unique composition with the appliqued princess feathers at the center and applique tulips, with the thinnest of stems, in the four corners of the center medallion. Surrounding the center are star blocks, pieced with early 19th century prints (some fabulous early block prints etc).

The backing is done in woven linen in several different sections pieced together. The binding is done in a hand woven tape and there are two separate sets of cross stitched initials on opposite back corners, one blue and the other brown.  

Condition: There is great wear, from use, to the backing with the batting showing especially along the edges and fold lines. General discoloration and yellowing from age/use, good patina. There are several blocks where the brown have been lost and also left discoloration in the surrounding fabric, with the worst one located at the top edge where you will note it has torn. This incredible quilt is well worth restoration efforts or can be enjoyed as is per your preference.
