A fabulous, handmade quilt top, unfinished backing from the late 19th century. This top was made by someone who took apart the cotton sacks from cut plug tobacco and used the opened sack cloth to piece the quilt top, along with a cream cotton (also possibly plain sack cloth). The tobacco sacks can be seen in the faded pink bricks. They were once a dark, orangey red.
Most sacks are Central Union Cut Plug Tobacco, with a few J.W. Right tobacco sacks mixed in here or there. Many logos and text visible on the back of the quilt top.
Condition is fair to good. There are a few dark marks on some of the white patches.
Machine pieced
Measures 71 x 87”
Please note that these are vintage and antique textiles, please read the descriptions carefully. I work hard to accurately describe and photograph any and all flaws. *All items are sold as is and all sales are final*
