Victorian Crazy Quilt with Blue Jays, c1890

A traditional Victorian Crazy Quilt in various silks, satins and other fabrics. This is constructed in a classic Crazy Quilt fashion with hand embellishments. The front has succumbed to much damage by way of fabric loss, fabric rot, water stains and moth damage, although viewed from afar it still packs a punch. What the front lacks, the backing makes up for. In great condition, the backing is a novelty cretonne fabric in a stunning print of blue jays. It has maintained most of its original color and reads beautifully. This quilt has been aired and then gone through deep freeze to clean. It has, finally, been steam cleaned by hand from the back. Best for display.
