Vintage Flower Vignettes Quilt, ca 1940

Sweet, sweet flower quilt, hand applique with hand embroidery details on every floral vignette. The hand quilting is exquisite…tiny precise quiting in a tight lattice pattern with quilted baskets in every other solid (tan - fugitive green) block. The wide outer border is quilted in an arc. The skilled hand quilting gives this vintage quilt the ultimate feel, that “bouncy ”, soft, quilt crinkle that we yearn for. The soft colors, a result of green dye that faded away, give it a wonderful, washy quality. From iris, to hyacinth, to rose and holly…all major, classic flowers of the seasons are represented. There are a few small “catch” tears to the surface cloth as shown. Overall soft, washed and very sturdy. Great for every day use.
